Re: Johnson
The thing some people forget about Johnson is he's only just turned 24. So to have a patch of poor form at 23 whilst having ongoing difficult contract talks not being felt his worth at the Club, it's understandable.

He gets asked to play anywhere in defence (RB, LB, CB), anywhere in midfield (DM, CM, RW, LW) and does a very admirable selfless performance more often than not without ever kicking up a fuss.

Amongst a sea of egotistical Playboy, prima Donna's in the Premier League, he stands out as a rare young model Pro with a fantastic attitude both on and off the pitch. Why anyone would want to long him off in a hurry is anyone's guess, as all I see is the kind of usual Squad player most Teams would like to have in theirs.

Re: Johnson
Sometimes he looks decent, other times awful. I would like him to stay, as long as he doesn’t get too greedy. He’s homegrown which we need, and has been with the club for a long time.

Coufal is also refusing to sign the new deal we are offering. We will need to upgrade on both of them for next season.

Junior Robinson looks promising in the U21’s. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Re: Johnson
20 odd appearances in his breakthrough season in 2020-21 and something like 25 with cup ties in 2021-22 including a goal away at Villa the like of which that Coufal could only dream of scoring.

Gone backwards ever since so for what ever reason the trajectory is all wrong.

Not sure why anyone would imagine he'll improve materially

Re: Johnson
Underrated extremely versatile Premier League Footballer. Should have been offered a decent more realistic contract long ago. One for the English quota too of course and uet another proud product of our famed Academy. Deserved Cup winner too.100% keep.

Re: Johnson
That Gonzi nkoke thinks keeping him is a no brainer.

50k.pw about average squad player. Maybe he take 40 or 45?

I think leep too. Not many youfs make it to 1st 11.

1 he's good enough for our squad
2
He's still.improving (in spite of 2 yra on the bench)
3 he's a good example to other youth players and prospective young players about a route to the 1st team

That’s fair enough for Saturday, but lets not pretend he’s normally decent and things like that aren’t common place in his game. He is absolutely average at best. I know he’s a local lad and from the academy and all that but he is lower end Premier League/Championship level.

Re: Johnson
Could thrive under a good coach. Has strength, reasonable speed, good in the air but needs development of his passing although not been so much of a problem recently when he has managed to play

We want to keep him thou, it’s the salary that they are asking.

How is this a 'Moyes failure'? Given the form of Coufal, where would you have played him?

Another Moyes failure…

Keep him on FFS…!!!

Re: Johnson
Last season he played on the right in a back 3 and i thought he looked really good there and might push on. A couple of games later as a right back he stood rooted to the spot as a player strolled in behind him and put the ball in the net. Inconsistency seems to be an issue which is hard to work on if your sat on the bench.

Re: Johnson
Keep him . Can genuinely play in multi positions . The perfect squad player .also helps he genuinely is one of us as well

Re: Johnson
If we keep Moyes, then it'll be a huge mistake to get rid of him.

I wouldn't be looking at offloading any player who's part of our 14 man squad.

Re: Johnson
Whether you think he is a squad player or not, letting an experienced young English player brought through the ranks leave on a free is a balls up of note.

ludo21 4:40 Mon Apr 8
Re: Johnson
Obviously depends on who the club are looking to bring in but you would hope that we can do a deal that everyone is happy with as he is a good versatile squad member able to play either full back or wide midfield.

Re: Johnson
Blimey, he didn't put another foot wrong in 55 minutes on Saturday and was definitely a contributing factor in winning the game.

I imagine every professional footballer has scuffed a volley like that at some point.

It was just as bad as Paqueta teeing Antonio up for a volley instead of playing a simple pass for the last kick of the game on Tuesday.
